The Shop

Or - the nest for my bird

Part of the prep work prior to starting construction is getting the work area ready, gathering tools and constructing work benches and various other items that will make building easier.

This is the airplane factory, aka basement work shop. this is how it looked on Jan 4, 2003 just after I had order the plans for my project. It needs a bunch of cleaning and straitning before work starts on the airplane plus some additional lights.

Another view of the shop area. I have what is called a daylight basement, the double doors at the end of the shop open outside on level ground. Will make removing airplane pieces parts fairly easy.

This is my "hangar", otherwise known as the garage. It'll be some time before I need to use it for airplane construction. I'll need to do some improvements such as insulation and more lights.

I built an epoxy mixing table from scrap lumber that had been laying around the shop. The top is 3/4" partical board with a formica surface, this is actually the hole in the kitchen counter for the sink (never throw away those scraps you never know when they will be useful).

I built a ratio scale to measure my epoxy, I found plans on the Aeronaut Press web site http://www.aeronautpress.com/measurresin.htm

I constructed an epoxy hot box from some scrap lumber and a piece of Celotex Thermax foil faced insulation board that was left over from a house project. The heat is provided via a 7W night light bulb and it will maintain a temperature between 85 and 95 degrees F. I sized it to hold two gallon cans. That's a quart can in the photo.
